Workshop Overview

The SPARC 2025 workshop at IIT Roorkee focuses on "Compute In-Memory and Neuromorphic Computing Using Emerging Memory Technologies." This online workshop aims to explore advancements in next-generation computing paradigms.

Participants will delve into in-memory computation techniques and neuromorphic architectures. These approaches promise significant improvements in energy efficiency and computational speed, particularly for AI and data-intensive tasks.

The workshop will bridge the gap between traditional von Neumann architectures and future intelligent hardware. It will highlight emerging materials, device technologies, and system-level innovations through talks and discussions.

Key Dates and Speakers

The workshop will be held online from July 24th to July 26th, 2025. This three-day event offers a comprehensive overview of the subject matter.

Distinguished speakers include Prof. Rajendra Bishnoi from Delft University of Technology (TU-Delft, Netherlands), Prof. Udayan Ganguly from IIT Bombay, India, and Prof. Sandip Lashkare from IIT Gandhinagar, India. These experts will share their insights and research findings.

The course is coordinated by Prof. Sparsh Mittal from IIT Roorkee. The workshop is dedicated In Memory of (Late) Prof. B.K. Kaushik.

Workshop Objectives

The workshop aims to introduce participants to compute-in-memory and neuromorphic computing. It will cover the principles, challenges, and opportunities these paradigms offer as alternatives to traditional architectures.

Another key objective is to facilitate interdisciplinary discussions. These discussions will connect emerging memory technologies with system-level designs and applications in AI and edge computing.

The workshop will also showcase recent research and innovations. It provides a platform for researchers and industry experts to present cutting-edge developments and experimental results.

The workshop will foster collaboration and knowledge exchange. It aims to encourage networking among academia, industry, and research institutions to promote collaborative projects.

Target Audience and Fees

The workshop is designed for a broad audience. This includes students, teachers, and engineers in fields like physics, electronics, electrical engineering, nanotechnology, and computer science.

Industry experts working on memory technologies, secure hardware design, or emerging computing paradigms will also benefit. Executives, engineers, and researchers from various organizations are welcome.

Workshop fees vary depending on the participant category. IIT Roorkee students/scholars pay INR 100, while others pay INR 250-800. These fees are inclusive of GST and are non-refundable.

  • IIT Roorkee students and research scholar: INR 100
  • Students, research scholars, post-doc and faculty from other colleges: INR 250
  • Alumni of IIT Roorkee: INR 250
  • Participants from industry, and all other participants from India: INR 600
  • Participants from abroad: INR 800

About the Organizers

Prof. Sparsh Mittal, the course coordinator, is an Associate Professor at IIT Roorkee. His research interests include architectures for machine learning and neural network accelerators.

The workshop is supported by the Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC). SPARC aims to improve India's research ecosystem through collaborations between Indian and foreign institutions.

IIT Roorkee, founded as Thomson College in 1847, has a rich history. It was the first Engineering College in the British Empire and is now a leading technological institute in India.
