The DPI for People and Planet Challenge is designed to spark a global wave of experimentation in climate-tech. It aims to nurture a new generation of climate-tech builders and surface solutions ready for scaling worldwide.
This initiative focuses on identifying and supporting innovative approaches to climate solutions. It seeks to foster a community dedicated to leveraging digital public infrastructure (DPI) for environmental and social good.
The challenge goes beyond a simple competition, with a focus on mission-critical use cases. It will culminate in a showcase at COP30, highlighting the most promising solutions.
This first-of-its-kind initiative is launched in collaboration with several key organizations. Partners include the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Co-Develop, and the Gates Foundation.
The Centre for Digital Public Infrastructure (CDPI) and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) are also key collaborators. The challenge is in official partnership with the COP30 presidency, ensuring high-level visibility and support.
This collaboration aims to bring together diverse expertise and resources. The goal is to accelerate the development and deployment of DPI-based climate solutions.
The primary aim is to generate project concepts demonstrating how a DPI approach can be adopted. These concepts should illustrate how governments and/or the private sector can scale solutions to benefit people and planet.
Another key objective is to build a vibrant community of practice to accelerate climate action. This community will facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration among innovators.
Ultimately, the challenge seeks to create momentum around the “People & Planet x DPI” agenda. This will promote the use of digital infrastructure for sustainable development.
The application deadline is 11th July 2025, at 11:59:59 PM Pacific Time. Interested innovators should submit their proposals before this deadline to be considered.
The challenge encourages global innovators to design climate solutions using Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). This includes developing innovative approaches to address climate change.
Real-world pilots will be supported in the months ahead by global funders and implementers. DPI custodians will also provide support to ensure the successful implementation of selected projects.
