Overview

This Faculty Development Program (FDP) focuses on Federated Learning (FL) for User Privacy and Data Confidentiality. It is organized by the Electronics & ICT Academy IIT Roorkee in association with the National Institute of Technology, Delhi, and is an initiative of the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.

The course aims to introduce core concepts, privacy challenges, and cryptographic methods in distributed machine learning. Participants will gain exposure to real-world use cases and proficiency in tools for implementing federated systems.

The FDP will empower educators to integrate FL concepts into academic curricula and research, fostering awareness in privacy-aware AI aligned with legal and ethical norms.

Dates, Venue, and Timings

The FDP will be held from July 28th to August 1st, 2025. The daily timings are from 09:30 AM to 6:00 PM.

The venue is in Hybrid Mode at the National Institute of Technology, Delhi. This allows for both in-person and remote participation.

The last date to register is July 26th, 2025. Make sure to register before this date to secure your spot.

Course Objectives and Outcomes

The primary objective is to introduce the core concepts and architecture of Federated Learning. Participants will understand privacy and security challenges in distributed ML and explore cryptographic methods to protect data during federated model training.

The course will provide hands-on experience with FL tools like TensorFlow Federated and PySyft. It will also cover communication-efficient algorithms and distributed training techniques.

Upon completion, participants will understand FL principles, implement privacy-preserving ML solutions, and be aware of regulatory frameworks like GDPR and HIPAA. They will also be prepared to guide research in privacy-focused AI and develop FL-based content for institutional programs.

Target Audience and Course Features

This FDP is beneficial for Academic Faculty and Students (UG/PG), Government Officials, Working Professionals in the Industry and Startups, and Research Scientists and Technical Staff.

The course features 40 hours of lectures, hands-on sessions, and pedagogy sessions. Lectures will be delivered by expert speakers from Academia and Industry.

Participants will have access to learning material and videos. A certificate will be provided by E&ICT Academy IIT Roorkee, aligned with QIP, NBA, and NAAC requirements.
