The Fondation Alzheimer is launching the 2025 International Visiting Scholar Program to foster international collaboration and enhance research skills. This program supports researchers in France to spend up to one year in a foreign academic laboratory, aiming to develop innovative approaches and establish collaborative research projects upon their return.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this program, applicants must meet specific criteria. These requirements ensure that the program supports researchers who are well-positioned to benefit from and contribute to international research collaborations.

Applicants must:

  • Hold a tenure track position in France.

  • Work in an academic research laboratory.

  • Conduct research in the field of Alzheimer’s disease and related diseases.

Meeting these criteria is essential for consideration in the selection process.

Research Project Focus

The proposed research project should significantly contribute to the understanding and treatment of Alzheimer's disease and related disorders. The foundation encourages projects that explore new methodologies and address critical questions in the field.

The research project can be in:

  • Basic research

  • Clinical and translational research

  • Social and healthcare research

Research areas include Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy body dementia, Parkinson dementia, frontotemporal dementia, corticobasal syndrome, progressive supranuclear palsy, primary progressive aphasia (all types), and posterior cortical atrophy. The project should also consider the importance of sex/gender within these fields.

Funding Details

The program provides substantial financial support to cover the costs associated with the research mission. This funding is designed to facilitate a productive and impactful research experience abroad.

The foundation offers individual compensatory funds up to 100,000€ for 12 months to cover mission costs. The funding is intended to support the researcher's activities and expenses during their time abroad.

This financial support enables researchers to fully engage in their projects and maximize their learning and collaborative opportunities.

Application and Submission

The application process is straightforward, requiring submission through an online portal. Applicants should ensure they meet all requirements and provide complete and accurate information.

Applications must be submitted in English via Proposal Central. An ORCID account is required to complete the application process. Key documents include a letter of motivation, applicant biosketch, copy of the doctorate degree, acceptance letter from the host laboratory director, two letters of reference, and publications list from the host laboratory members.

Ensure all documents are prepared according to the guidelines to avoid any delays or disqualification.

Important Dates and Selection

Adhering to the specified deadlines is crucial for a successful application. The selection process is rigorous, focusing on the quality of the applicant and the potential impact of the proposed research.

Key dates to remember:

  • Submission deadline: September 30th 2025, 23:59 pm (Paris time)

  • Selection period: October-November 2025

  • Project start date: January 2026

The selection is based on the applicant profile, the quality and feasibility of the project, and the new scientific contribution to the French laboratory upon return. The Scientific Advisory Board of Fondation Alzheimer conducts the selection.
