Description

The Pfizer Competitive Grant Program invites applications for the Clinical Data Updates on Long Term Outcomes and Practical Therapy Management Strategies in First-line ALK-positive Metastatic Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) independent medical education grant. This opportunity supports educational activities designed to increase healthcare professional understanding and awareness of recent clinical data and practical therapy management strategies for patients with ALK-positive metastatic NSCLC (mNSCLC), with a particular focus on community oncology practice.

Overview

The programme seeks grant applications for education activities that address the educational needs of healthcare professionals, especially those in community oncology practice. Projects should use community-relevant, peer-to-peer learning approaches to strengthen understanding of the most recent clinical data and provide practical adverse event management strategies for ALK tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI)–based treatment, including weight gain, hyperlipidemia, and central nervous system (CNS)-related effects in patients with ALK+ mNSCLC. The geographic scope of projects is limited to the United States.

Funding and Benefits

  • Funding Range: Individual projects requesting up to $250,000 will be considered. Proposals with smaller budgets are also encouraged. Pfizer intends to support 2–3 proposals.
  • Project Length: Maximum project duration is 1 year.
  • Overhead: Institutional overhead costs are capped at 28% per Pfizer policy; indirect costs are included within the total award amount.
  • Payment: Grant funding is paid to the grantee organization only, subject to applicable law and Pfizer legal review.

Eligibility

Applicant organizations must be based in the United States. The following types of organisations may apply:

  • Medical, nursing, allied health, and/or pharmacy professional schools
  • Healthcare institutions (both large and small)
  • Professional organizations/medical societies
  • Medical education companies
  • Other entities with a mission related to healthcare professional education and/or healthcare improvement

Important restrictions:

  • Only organizations are eligible to receive grants. Individuals and medical practice groups (e.g., an independent group of physicians not affiliated with a hospital, academic institution, or professional society) are not eligible.
  • The applicant must be the project/program lead or an authorized designee. The project/program lead must be an employee or contractor of the requesting organization.
  • If the project involves multiple departments or institutions, all must have a relevant role and the requesting organization must have a key role.
  • The requesting organization must be legally able to receive award funding directly from Pfizer Inc.
  • For projects offering continuing education credit, the requesting organization must be accredited.
  • Applicants must disclose any use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in the preparation of the grant application. Failure to disclose may result in disqualification.

Research Areas and Activities

Projects should focus on increasing healthcare professional understanding and competence in one or more of the following areas:

  • Understanding and awareness of the most recent clinical data relevant to first-line treatment of ALK+ mNSCLC
  • Addressing educational gaps in community oncology regarding diagnosis, treatment, and management of ALK+ mNSCLC
  • Optimizing ALK inhibitor–based treatment through proper adverse event management via dose modifications and innovative strategies
  • Maximizing therapy management strategies through collaboration between academic experts and community oncologists
  • Educating patients on the importance of appropriate biomarker testing
  • Role of the multidisciplinary team (pharmacist, nurse, allied health providers) in treatment management and monitoring during ALK inhibitor therapy
  • Weight management and management of neurocognitive adverse events in patients treated with oral oncolytic therapies

Educational formats that will be considered include peer-to-peer platforms, interactive case-based forums, short-form digital education (podcasts, Q&A modules, videos), testing and treatment algorithms, on-agenda sessions at live conferences, stand-alone symposia, expert interviews, conference coverage reviews, online articles, newsletters, training courses, webinars, social media content, and medical school or fellowship training curricula updates.

Target audience: Oncologists (particularly community oncologists), oncology nurses and nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of people with ALK+ mNSCLC.
