The University of Luxembourg is offering a Doctoral Researcher position in 6G Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTNs) with a focus on Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite systems. This position is part of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) and the SIGCOM research group, led by Prof. Symeon Chatzinotas. The research will involve advanced work on the physical-layer integration of communication and positioning in next-generation 5G/6G NTNs.
The University of Luxembourg is an international research university known for its multilingual and interdisciplinary character. The SnT Centre at the university is a leading research and innovation hub in secure, reliable, and trustworthy ICT systems and services. The SIGCOM research group focuses on telecommunication and networking systems, including NTNs and quantum communication infrastructures.
The successful candidate will be responsible for investigating joint communication and positioning techniques, developing signal processing and estimation algorithms for positioning in high-dynamics NTN scenarios, and exploring GNSS-5G coexistence and hybrid positioning approaches. Additionally, the candidate will align their research with ongoing 3GPP developments in 5G/6G NTN and positioning standardization, and publish results in leading peer-reviewed journals and present at major international conferences.
To be considered for this position, candidates must hold an MSc or MEng degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field. Strong background in digital signal processing and mathematics, solid knowledge of wireless communication systems, and strong programming skills in MATLAB are required. Background in optimization and information theory, interest or prior exposure to positioning technologies, GNSS, or satellite communications, and experience with C/C++, Python, or related tools are advantageous. Applicants must also demonstrate at least B2-level proficiency in the language of their thesis.
Applications should include a detailed curriculum vitae, a cover letter explaining the candidate's motivation for the doctoral thesis topic and how their qualifications align with the academic focus, and a transcript of all modules and results from university-level courses taken.
