The Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship Program is a six-to-nine month fellowship program in Washington, DC, designed for recent college and graduate school alumni.
The program offers an opportunity for fellows to gain practical experience by working with nonprofit, public-interest organizations addressing peace and security issues. Fellows will choose to work with one of the twenty-five participating organizations, gaining valuable experience and contributing to the organization's goals.
The fellowship program focuses on four broad areas: Nuclear Nonproliferation and WMD, Climate and Security nexus, Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution, and Emerging Technology Threats. Fellows will work on projects related to these areas, collaborating with their host organizations.
The program encourages fellows to engage in research, writing, and organizing activities that support the organization's mission.
The program is open to individuals considering a career in international peace and security issues.
Applicants must have completed a baccalaureate degree by the time the fellowship commences.
Preference is given to United States citizens, although a fellowship to a foreign national residing in the U.S. is awarded periodically.
Non-U.S. citizens living outside the United States are not eligible to apply.
The fellowship is not intended for students or scholars interested in pursuing independent research in Washington, DC.
Fellows receive a monthly salary of $3,885, partial health insurance compensation, and travel expenses to Washington, DC.
The program also provides $1,000 per fellow for professional development, which can be used for attending conferences, taking language or policy courses, or covering travel and accommodation expenses. The fellowship duration is six to nine months.
The program provides fellows with opportunities for professional development, including meetings with policy experts and social networking events with alumni.
Fellows also receive mentoring from a board member and a former fellow.
The application period for the Spring 2025 semester is from September 7 to October 7, 2024. The fellowship will begin between January 15 and April 1, 2025.
