This call focuses on advancing renewable hydrogen production technologies from waste materials. The EU-India coordinated effort aims to foster collaboration and innovation in converting biogenic wastes into sustainable hydrogen sources.

Focus and Objectives

The primary objective is to enhance the sustainability, safety, and affordability of renewable hydrogen production technologies. This involves developing innovative methods to convert biogenic wastes into renewable hydrogen.

The focus is on biogenic wastes that lack recycling potential, such as agricultural residues, forest waste, the biogenic component of municipal waste, sewage sludge, and industrial wastewater. The goal is to utilize biochemical and thermochemical pathways for Waste to Renewable Hydrogen (W2rH) conversion.

This initiative seeks to promote environmentally friendly and economically viable solutions for hydrogen production, contributing to a cleaner energy future.

Funding Details

The MNRE provides funding of approximately INR 45 Crore per project for Indian consortia. The Horizon Europe program offers around EUR 5 million per project for European consortia. Up to 2 projects may be funded under this call.

The project duration is expected to be either 3 or 4 years, allowing sufficient time for research, development, and implementation of the proposed technologies.

This substantial financial support underscores the commitment to advancing renewable hydrogen technologies and fostering international collaboration.

Important Dates and Deadlines

The final submission date for proposals is 02 September 2025, 17:00 hrs. Ensure all application materials are submitted before this deadline.

Applicants should begin the application process well in advance to address any technical issues and ensure a complete submission.

Late submissions will not be considered, so adherence to the deadline is critical.

Eligibility Criteria

The call is open to consortia comprising both Indian and European entities. Collaboration between research institutions, universities, and industry partners is encouraged.

  • Indian consortia must meet the eligibility criteria set by MNRE.

  • European consortia must comply with the Horizon Europe guidelines.

Projects must demonstrate a clear potential for significant advancements in renewable hydrogen production from waste materials.
