Description

The Supporting Effective Educator Development (SEED) program, administered by the Employment and Training Administration at the U.S. Department of Labor on behalf of the U.S. Department of Education, provides funding to increase the number of highly effective educators. The program supports evidence-based practices that prepare, develop, or enhance educator skills to improve student outcomes. Grants will allow eligible entities to develop, expand, and evaluate practices that can serve as models to be sustained and disseminated.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants include:

  • Education: Public and state institutions of higher education; private institutions of higher education.
  • Business: For-profit organizations other than small businesses.
  • Nonprofit: Other Native American tribal organizations; nonprofits non-higher education with 501(c)(3) or without 501(c)(3).
  • Government: Federally recognized Native American tribal governments.
  • Miscellaneous: Other.

Additional information: To receive funds, an applicant must be one of the following:

  • An institution of higher education (IHE) that provides evidence-based course materials or resources to increase academic achievement, graduation rates, or postsecondary education matriculation.
  • A national nonprofit entity with a demonstrated record of raising student academic achievement, graduation rates, and rates of higher education attendance, matriculation, or completion, or of effectiveness in providing preparation and professional development for teachers, principals, or other school leaders.
  • The Bureau of Indian Education.
  • A partnership consisting of one or more entities described above and a for-profit entity.

Nonprofit organizations may demonstrate their status as described in 34 CFR 75.51, including IRS recognition, a state taxing body statement, a certified copy of incorporation, or documentation from a parent organization.

Applicants may receive competitive preference points for projects or proposals endorsed by a Governor or chief State education official, or for projects designed to responsibly advance artificial intelligence and/or prioritize and expand Registered Apprenticeships.
