The USGS Cooperative Landslide Hazard Mapping and Assessment Program Announcement for Fiscal Year 2026 provides resources to assist state, local, Tribal, and territorial governments in reducing landslide risk through hazard mapping, risk assessments, public education, and interagency coordination. Established by the National Landslide Preparedness Act (Public Law 116-323), this U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) program supports projects that address landslide hazards, which occur in every U.S. state and territory and cause fatalities, disrupt transportation and commerce, and inflict billions of dollars in damage annually.
Administered by the USGS Landslide Hazards Program, this funding opportunity supports cooperative efforts to enhance risk assessments, improve community preparedness, and promote collaboration among government agencies, universities, and local organizations. Projects funded through this program develop detailed landslide hazard maps and analyses, deliver outreach campaigns and workshops, and build partnerships for effective risk reduction. Each proposal must address at least one Guidance Criterion: hazard mapping, planning and coordination, education and outreach, or Alaska-specific hazards.
