This 4-day workshop is designed to teach researchers how to create 3D illustrations for science communication using Blender, a free and powerful software. The workshop is beginner-friendly and requires no prior experience.
Participants will learn the basics of 3D modeling, user interface navigation, modifiers, particle systems, lighting, texturing, and rendering. The workshop includes hands-on projects, individual support, and lifetime access to learning materials.
Researchers will gain the skills to create high-quality 3D illustrations for research papers, theses, presentations, proposals, and social media content. This workshop has been embraced by researchers from top research institutes worldwide.
The workshop will take place from May 17 to 20, 2025, from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM (IST). There will be 4 live sessions, combining live instruction with pre-recorded videos for flexible learning.
A good internet connection and a mouse are recommended for optimal participation. Participants will have access to a dedicated WhatsApp group for support and community interaction.
The workshop fee is ₹ 1999/- (INR) or 40 USD. Limited seats are available, so early enrollment is encouraged.
The curriculum covers a wide range of essential Blender skills, including an introduction to photography, 3D modeling basics, and user interface navigation. Participants will also learn about modifiers, particle systems, lighting, texturing, and rendering techniques.
Upon completion of the workshop, participants will be able to create cover art designs and effective Table of Content (TOC) graphics for research papers. These skills will enhance the visibility and impact of their research.
The workshop emphasizes hands-on learning, with multiple scientific illustration projects designed to build confidence and practical skills. Participants will also gain access to free 3D models for use in their projects.
The workshop features interactive live sessions where the instructor will share valuable information and answer questions. Participants will receive individual feedback on their project submissions during the live sessions.
The active WhatsApp group allows participants to share their work, receive feedback from peers, and get immediate support from the instructor. This community support extends beyond the workshop duration.
Participants will also receive access to free scientific 3D models for use in their projects, without any attribution requirements. These resources will further enhance their ability to create compelling visualizations.
The workshop is instructed by Rafeeque Mavoor, a scientific illustrator with extensive experience working with researchers. He has a background in chemistry and has conducted numerous science illustration workshops at prestigious institutions.
Rafeeque has trained over 1000 researchers through online workshops and has worked on scientific illustration and animation projects for various organizations. His expertise ensures a high-quality learning experience.
Upon successful completion of the workshop and submission of projects, participants will receive an official certificate. This certificate, signed by the instructor and bearing the institution's logo, can be shared on LinkedIn and included in CVs to enhance credibility.
