Overview

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Patna is organizing a two-week Capacity Building Programme (CBP) sponsored by ICSSR. This program focuses on "Advanced Research Methods and Effective Teaching Techniques." The CBP is designed for young social science faculty.

The program aims to equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of advanced research methodologies, including both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Participants will also learn to use open-source tools to enhance their research outcomes. The program will run from June 23rd to July 5th, 2025.

NIT Patna is an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India. The program is ideal for educators in humanities, management, and social sciences seeking to strengthen their research understanding and pedagogical skills.

Course Objectives and Coverage

The primary objective of the CBP is to expose in-service faculty, particularly newly inducted educators in Humanities and Social Sciences, to the latest advances in their fields. It will cover technological transformations and methodological updates to enhance their research and teaching effectiveness. The program aims to improve teaching and research competencies through interaction with educators from various areas.

The course will be delivered through lectures and interactive sessions, including hands-on training on free software. Key topics include research philosophy, advanced research tools, the research and publication process, and ethical issues in academic writing. Participants will also learn about e-library resources, plagiarism checks, and the Indian Knowledge System.

The course will also cover the use of ICT in higher education, innovative teaching techniques, and active learning strategies. Instructional planning, design, and delivery systems, as well as leadership and managerial skill development, will also be addressed.

Venue and Resource Persons

The Capacity Building Programme will be held at the National Institute of Technology Patna, located on Ashok Rajpath, Patna- 800005, Bihar. NIT Patna is easily accessible, being 8 km from Patna Junction railway station and 14 km from Jai Prakash Narayan International Airport.

Resource persons for the CBP will be experts from reputed academic institutions, including IITs, NITs, Central Universities, ICSSR institutes, and State Universities. These experts will conduct lectures and hands-on sessions to provide participants with valuable insights and practical skills.

NIT Patna itself is a well-regarded institution, ranked 56th among engineering colleges in India by NIRF in 2023. The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at NIT Patna adopts an interdisciplinary approach to foster societal advancement.

Eligibility and Registration

The CBP is open to serving Lecturers and Assistant Professors in UGC-recognized Indian universities, deemed universities, colleges, institutes of national importance, and ICSSR Research Institutes. Applications must be forwarded by the parent institution to be considered.

Interested participants must apply online by submitting the registration form. Required documents include a brief CV, employee ID proof, a forwarding letter from the affiliating institution, and a write-up stating the reasons for participation. Attested copies of caste/community certificates are needed for ST/SC/OBC/Minority applicants.

Logistics and Contact Information

There is no registration fee for the selected 30 participants. Modest accommodation will be provided to outstation participants. Travel allowance will be reimbursed as per ICSSR guidelines upon submission of tickets.

Additional interested participants can register in self-financed mode for Rs.3000 + 18% GST (without accommodation). Information about this option will be communicated separately via email. Attendance for all sessions is mandatory to receive a certificate.
