The Japanese Headache Society and Pfizer are jointly sponsoring a competitive grant program focused on improving the quality of migraine medical care in Japan. This initiative aims to support projects that promote behavioral changes among healthcare professionals, leading to earlier diagnosis and more appropriate treatment for migraine patients.
This Request for Proposal (RFP) specifically targets projects aimed at improving migraine care through behavioral changes and enhanced medical practices. The key areas of interest include:
Building mechanisms to encourage patients who need treatment to seek medical consultation.
Facilitating collaboration between expert and non-expert doctors in migraine management.
Promoting early diagnosis and appropriate treatment through the dissemination of specialized knowledge.
Assisting children and adolescents with migraine to better understand their condition.
Educating school physicians, industrial physicians, public health nurses, and pharmacists to improve their knowledge and awareness of migraine.
The program seeks to support projects that translate medical and scientific knowledge into practical application, focusing on building systems and mechanisms to link knowledge with tangible results. Educational programs solely for knowledge acquisition are not eligible.
Individual projects can request funding up to 1,200,000 JPY. This amount should cover all direct, indirect, and institutional overhead costs, with overhead capped at 28% per Pfizer policy.
The anticipated project duration is up to 2 years, running from December 1, 2025, to November 30, 2027. The funding amount will depend on the expert review panel's evaluation of the proposal and associated costs.
Key dates to remember: The application submission deadline is July 13, 2025. Notification of decisions is expected around October 30, 2025, with projects commencing on December 1, 2025.
Eligible applicants include medical, dental, nursing, allied health, and pharmacy professional schools, healthcare institutions, professional organizations, government agencies, and other entities with a healthcare improvement mission. Only organizations, not individuals or medical practice groups, are eligible to receive grants.
Collaborations within and between institutions are encouraged, provided all partners have a relevant role and the requesting organization has a key role in the project. The Project Lead/Principal Investigator (PI) must be an employee or contractor of the requesting organization.
The requesting organization must be legally able to receive award funding directly from Pfizer International LLC. For projects offering continuing education credit, the requesting organization must be accredited.
