The Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) and Pfizer Inc. Independent Medical Education Visiting Professorship Program supports community-based urology and medical oncology organizations in implementing germline and somatic testing for precision medicine in prostate cancer care. This competitive grant program provides financial support for approved organizations to host a 2.5-to-3-hour medical education program led by one or two Visiting Professors whose expertise aligns with the organization's unmet educational and practice needs related to genetic and somatic testing for patients with prostate cancer.
This first-time competitive Visiting Professorship program aims to provide meaningful education for prostate cancer care teams in community practice, building capacity by helping teams identify gaps in patient care, engineer practice-level solutions, and foster collaborations between community-based practitioners and academic experts. The program is designed to help initiate or implement a practice-level solution that improves the delivery of prostate cancer care at the grantee site, specifically addressing practice gaps related to germline and somatic testing. Urologists, medical oncologists, advanced practice providers, and patients benefit from the knowledge and onsite presence of distinguished clinical experts who might otherwise be inaccessible.
The program is administered through a publicly posted Request for Proposals (RFP) with a scientific review committee (SRC) making final grant decisions. Organizations submit applications addressing specific gaps in practice or care as outlined in the RFP.
Eligible candidates include:
The total budget for this RFP is $250,000 USD, with plans to support 5 to 7 organizations. Individual project budgets should not exceed $50,000 USD. The amount of the award depends upon the SRC's evaluation of the proposal and costs involved and will be stated clearly in the award agreement.
PCF will cover all medical education meeting expenses, including room rental if required, meals, and audiovisual equipment, as well as travel expenses and honoraria for Visiting Professors. These costs should not be included in the applicant's budget. Local costs such as onsite management, logistics, staff time, planning, and other implementation or initiation costs should be included in the budget proposal.
Pfizer may support up to 28% of overhead costs associated with the total proposed project budget.
In 2027, PCF will provide registration and travel support for one participant per Organization to attend the PCF Scientific Retreat, the world's foremost scientific conference on prostate cancer biology and treatment, held annually in autumn.
