Advancing Adult Immunization Strategies: A Focus on the Impact of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and Cardiorespiratory Outcomes is a competitive grant program that supports independent medical education initiatives aimed at improving adult RSV immunization strategies, with a particular emphasis on the relationship between RSV infection and cardiorespiratory outcomes in high-risk adults.

Overview

RSV is increasingly recognized as a contributor to adverse cardiorespiratory outcomes in older adults and those with underlying cardiovascular disease (CVD), yet awareness and integration of RSV prevention into clinical practice remain limited. This request for proposals (RFP) seeks to fund educational projects that address unmet needs in recognizing RSV as a risk for cardiorespiratory events, understanding emerging data on RSV vaccination and cardiorespiratory outcomes, and applying current adult RSV guidelines.

Projects should improve healthcare professional understanding of:

• The epidemiology, burden, and outcomes of RSV infection in adults, particularly those with cardiovascular disease
• The relationship between RSV and cardiovascular morbidity and mortality
• Emerging real-world evidence evaluating the impact of RSV prevention on cardiorespiratory outcomes
• Current recommendations for adult RSV vaccination
• The role of cardiology professionals in identifying, counseling, and managing patients eligible for adult immunization
• The importance of RSV prevention as part of cardiovascular disease management and practical considerations for integrating immunization discussions into practice

The geographic scope of projects is limited to the United States.

Funding and Benefits

• Funding range: Individual projects requesting up to $200,000 will be considered. The estimated total available budget for this RFP is $200,000.
• Allowable costs: Award amounts include direct costs, institutional overhead costs (capped at 28% per Pfizer policy), and indirect costs.
• Grant type: Independent medical education grant. Pfizer must not be involved in any aspect of project development or conduct of the independent education program.
• Payment: Grant funding will be paid to the grantee organization (not individuals).

Eligibility

Eligible applicant organizations include:

• Medical, dental, nursing, allied health, and/or pharmacy professional schools
• Healthcare institutions (both large and small)
• Professional organizations and medical societies
• Medical education companies
• Other entities with a mission related to healthcare professional education and/or healthcare improvement

Important eligibility criteria:

• Only organizations are eligible to receive grants, not individuals or medical practice groups (e.g., an independent group of physicians not affiliated with a hospital, academic institution, or professional society).
• If the project involves multiple institutions, all must have a relevant role, and the requesting organization must have a key role.
• The applicant must be the project/program lead or an authorized designee (e.g., grant coordinator).
• The project/program lead must be an employee or contractor of the requesting organization.
• The requesting organization must be legally able to receive award funding directly from Pfizer Inc. Applicants should confirm this with their organization before submitting.
• For projects offering continuing education credit, the requesting organization must be accredited.

Research Areas and Activities

This RFP supports independent medical education initiatives, not clinical research. Projects evaluating the efficacy of therapeutic or diagnostic agents will not be considered.

Primary area of interest: Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)

• Videos, podcasts, infographics, animations, peer-to-peer educational forums
• Enduring materials linked to congress-based education (e.g., recordings, toolkits, digital resources)

Target audience: Cardiologists (general, heart failure, preventive, interventional, electrophysiology), cardiovascular advanced practice providers (NPs, PAs), primary care physicians with a cardiovascular focus, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals involved in adult vaccination and cardiovascular care.

The full project proposal should be single-spaced, Calibri 12-point font, 1-inch margins, and no more than 15 pages (excluding references). Required sections include goals and objectives, assessment of need, target audience, project design and methods, innovation, evaluation and outcomes, dissemination plan, anticipated timeline, additional information, organization detail, and budget narrative.
