The Citizen of the Year Awards 2025, presented by the Australia Day Council of South Australia and administered by local Councils, recognize outstanding individuals and organizations who contribute to making their communities better.

These awards acknowledge the tireless efforts of unsung heroes who provide exceptional service in various fields, including education, health, fundraising, charitable and voluntary services, business, sport, arts, the environment, and more.

Scope of Work

The Citizen of the Year Awards aim to acknowledge and celebrate individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to their communities.

The awards recognize outstanding service, leadership, and impact on the local government area.

Eligibility

• Citizen of the Year Award: Must be an Australian citizen.

• Young Citizen of the Year Award: Must be an Australian citizen under 30 years of age on January 26, 2022.

• Community Event of the Year Award: Must be Australian Citizens.

• Award for Active Citizenship: No citizenship requirement.

The awards are presented annually on Australia Day, January 26th.
