The CSIR Travel Grant Scheme offers financial assistance to PhD students, research associates, resident doctors, and other non-regular researchers involved in research and development. The grant covers the full reimbursement of the airfare for international travel, ensuring researchers can attend and present their work without financial burden.

Eligibility Criteria for CSIR International Travel Grant

To apply for the CSIR International Travel Grant, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  1. Active Researcher: The applicant should be an active researcher, including PhD students, research associates, resident doctors, or an Emeritus Scientist engaged in R&D.

  2. Educational Qualification: A minimum qualification of Post Graduate in Science or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Medicine or equivalent from a recognized institution is required.

  3. Previous CSIR Support: The applicant should not have received any CSIR travel support in the past three years.

  4. Published Research: The applicant must have published papers in refereed journals.

  5. Conference Participation: The applicant should have an accepted paper for presentation as a single or lead author or have received an invitation to chair a session or be a keynote speaker.

  6. Application Timeline: The application must be submitted to CSIR-HRDG at least 2 months before the event but not more than 4 months in advance.

  7. Institutional Endorsement: The application must be signed by the applicant and the authorized signatories of the academic institution.

  8. Event Attendance: The candidate is expected to attend the conference/event.

Application Process for CSIR Travel Grant

The application process involves submitting various documents at different stages:

Pre-Sanction Stage

  • Summary Sheet and Application Form: These must be completed and forwarded through the proper channel.

  • Acceptance Letter: A letter from the event organizers confirming the applicant’s participation.

  • NOC from Institute: A No Objection Certificate from the applicant’s institution for the stay abroad.

  • Event Brochure and Paper Abstract: Copies of the event announcement and the paper's abstract to be presented.

  • Airfare Estimate: A memo/estimate of the airfare by the shortest route from a Government-approved travel agent.

  • Funding Commitment: Details of any other financial assistance for the trip, if applicable.

  • No Previous Grant: A certificate from the applicant confirming no previous CSIR travel support in the last three years.

Post-Event Reimbursement Process

After the event, applicants must submit the following documents to claim reimbursement:

  1. Grant-in-Aid Form: The form must be completed and submitted in duplicate.

  2. Tour Report: A detailed report of the event attended.

  3. Travel Documentation: Tickets, e-tickets, and boarding passes.

  4. Participation Certificate: A certificate from the event organizers confirming participation.

  5. Sanction Letter Copy: If applicable, a copy of the sanction letter for travel support from other organizations.

  6. NEFT Form: The NEFT form should be duly verified and attested, and the bank details for reimbursement should be provided.

Important Points to Note

  • Travel claims must be submitted within 2 months of the event. Delays beyond this period are only considered in exceptional cases.

  • Reimbursement is subject to fund availability and will be processed as soon as possible with communication details provided to the candidate.
