Introduction

The Capacity Accelerator Network (CAN) Data Science Fellowship 2024 program is designed to develop data science talent for climate and health impact across Africa. The fellowship provides emerging data science professionals with the skills needed to address challenges at the intersection of climate and health and positively impact lives across the continent. Participants collaborate with host institutions and mentors on projects to share their data skills, encourage innovative solutions, and build a network of data professionals committed to sustainable development.

Scope of Work

The fellowship includes practical project work, media training, and opportunities for fellows to present their work at local, regional, and international events. Fellows will receive a monthly stipend and are expected to be physically present within the government department or SIO office during the assignment period.

Eligibility

• Candidates must have completed a first university degree and demonstrate a capacity to undertake independent advanced academic research and study.

• Candidates must have 3 years of experience in data management, analysis and visualization.

• Candidates must have good communication skills and quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.

• Candidates must have strong expertise in technology, systems development, big data, open data and data science.

• Candidates should have a working knowledge of the contexts of African countries concerning climate and health.

This is a full-time position. Candidates must be available to carry out duties. The selected fellows will be expected to participate in different activities and strictly follow the program.

Budget and Duration

The fellowship provides a monthly stipend to the fellows.
