The Fellowship Programme: Historical Archives of the European Cultural Foundation – Artistic Research Fellowship supports professional creatives conducting research-based work that engages with the history of the European Cultural Foundation (ECF) and the role of culture in shaping Europe as a shared space of imagination, cooperation, and solidarity. Fellows are embedded within the international scholarly community of the European University Institute in Florence. The programme funds two annual fellowships; the present opportunity concerns the Artistic Research Fellowship.

Overview

The Artistic Research Fellowship is designed for professional creatives whose practice incorporates research and includes a clear dissemination strategy. The fellowship enables a research stay at the Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU) in Florence, where fellows may pursue projects that critically and creatively explore the ECF’s history and the broader contributions of culture to European integration. Outcomes of the fellowship must be completed and publicly presented or published within two years.

Funding and Benefits

Successful applicants may receive up to 10,000 EUR to support a research stay at the Historical Archives of the European Union in Florence. Funds may be used for:

Eligibility

The fellowship is open to professional creatives active in the following disciplines:

Applicants must demonstrate a research-based practice and present a clear strategy for disseminating their project outcomes. The fellowship is open to researchers at the following career stages:

  • First Stage Researcher (R1) – up to the point of PhD
  • Recognised Researcher (R2) – PhD holders or equivalent who are not yet fully independent
  • Established Researcher (R3) – researchers who have developed a level of independence

Research Areas

Projects may engage with cultural history and archival research. The fellowship encourages work that examines the history of the European Cultural Foundation and the wider role of culture in fostering European cooperation and solidarity. Research fields include Humanities and Social Sciences.
