Description

The First Call for Applications for the NNF-IAS Fellowship Programme aims to strengthen Nordic research environments in health and sustainability by harnessing the interdisciplinary and collaborative potential of the Nordic Institutes for Advanced Studies. Managed by the Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (AIAS) and supported by the Novo Nordisk Foundation together with seven other Nordic Institutes for Advanced Studies, the programme seeks to contribute to transformative breakthroughs with global impact.

Overview

Five fellowships are available in this first call, distributed among four main partner institutes: Denmark (AIAS), Finland (HCAS), Norway (CAS), and Sweden (SCAS). The programme is open to curiosity-driven researchers of any nationality and from all academic disciplines whose research profiles align with the thematic scope of the call. Fellowships last for two years and require residence in the country of the host institute for the full duration.

Funding and Benefits

  • Salary: Full-time salary based on seniority, regulated through national collective union agreements.
  • Research budget: Up to EUR 20,000.
  • Relocation support: Relocation travel expenses and relocation assistance.

Eligibility

  • Career stage: Applicants must have between 2 and 10 years of career experience after completion of their PhD (the PhD training period is not counted).
  • Mobility requirement: Applicants must not have resided or carried out their main work activity in the country of their priority hosting institute for more than 12 months in the two years immediately prior to the application deadline.
  • Residence: Fellows must be willing to reside in the country of the hosting institute for the full duration of the fellowship.
  • Research fields: Humanities and Social sciences are eligible; all academic disciplines are considered if the research falls within the call’s thematic scope.

Research Areas

The programme focuses on health and sustainability, with this first call addressing inequity in health in the Nordic region. Researchers from any discipline whose work contributes to this theme are encouraged to apply.
