The Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI) programme provides access to abstracts of Large-scale Research Projects adopted under major research categories. These abstracts offer insight into research activities being carried out at universities and other research institutes in Japan.
Administered by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), the KAKENHI programme supports a wide range of scientific research through competitive funding. The Abstracts of Large-scale Research Projects page compiles newly adopted projects across several funding categories, allowing users to review the scope and aims of funded research. Abstracts are available for projects adopted from FY2021 onward, with links organised by fiscal year and research category.
Abstracts are published for the following research categories:
Detailed descriptions of each category are available under the "Types of Grants Programs" section of the KAKENHI website.
Abstracts of newly adopted Large-scale Research Projects can be accessed for the following fiscal years:
Links to the full abstracts for each fiscal year and category are available on the JSPS Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research page. For projects adopted in FY2020 or earlier, a separate booklet titled "Frontline Scientific Research Projects Advanced in JAPAN" is accessible through the National Diet Library Web Archiving Project (WARP).
