The Going Global Partnerships is pleased to announce the HE Connects 2025, offering grants to foster transnational education (TNE) and internationalisation partnerships. This initiative aims to strengthen collaboration between higher education institutions in the UK and Mexico.
HE Connects supports collaborative higher education projects between the UK and Mexico. The primary focus is on promoting TNE partnerships, including joint curricula, joint teaching, and collaborative programs. These projects aim to enhance educational opportunities and international experiences for students and faculty.
Another key area is designing and strengthening institutional internationalisation strategies. This involves developing frameworks and initiatives to increase global engagement and cross-cultural understanding within higher education institutions. Additionally, the call supports assessing and strengthening institutional capacity for internationalisation, ensuring institutions have the resources and expertise to effectively manage international partnerships.
The call also encourages thematic panels and events for science co-operation and policy dialogues. These events provide platforms for researchers and policymakers to discuss collaborative opportunities and address key challenges in science and technology. This aspect of the call aims to foster innovation and knowledge exchange between the UK and Mexico.
To be eligible, project proposals must include one UK higher education institution with degree-awarding powers as the lead applicant. The partner institution must be one Mexican higher education institution. Both institutions must actively participate in the project's development and execution.
Proposals must be jointly prepared by both the UK and Mexican institutions. The UK institution is responsible for submitting the proposal on behalf of the partnership. This ensures a collaborative approach from the outset.
Support letters from both institutions are required, confirming their capacity to manage and support the project. These letters should demonstrate the institutions' commitment to the project's success and their ability to provide the necessary resources and oversight.

The overall funding available supports up to five projects. Each project will receive a grant of £20,000 to support their activities. This funding is intended to facilitate collaboration and achieve the project's objectives.
The project duration is 12 months, with projects expected to start in January 2026. This timeline allows sufficient time for planning, implementation, and evaluation of the project's outcomes. The UK lead institution is responsible for transferring funds to the Mexican partner for project activities, ensuring equitable distribution of resources.
The deadline for applications is 30 July 2025, 23.59 BST. Applicants should ensure that all required documents are submitted by this deadline to be considered for funding. Late submissions will not be accepted.
Interested applicants are encouraged to join an online Q&A session about the grant call. This session will provide an opportunity to ask questions and clarify any doubts regarding the application process. It's a valuable resource for understanding the call's requirements and expectations.
To apply, download the application guidance and access the online application form on the HE Connects website. The application guidance provides detailed instructions and templates for preparing the proposal. Ensure all sections are completed accurately and comprehensively.
