The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is offering Post-Doctoral Fellowships (IPDF) to motivated individuals with a strong research background. This fellowship aims to support high-quality research and foster contributions to society. Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) and foreign nationals are also encouraged to apply.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. with First Class or equivalent in their preceding degree and demonstrate a strong academic record. Candidates who have submitted their Ph.D. thesis are also eligible to apply, provided they furnish proof of submission. It is preferred that applicants are less than 32 years of age at the time of application.

  • A Ph.D. degree or proof of thesis submission.

  • A strong academic record.

  • Age preferably below 32 years.

Fellowship Details

The fellowship is initially for one year, with a possible extension for another year based on performance evaluation. Selected candidates will receive a consolidated fellowship of INR 80,000 per month, along with applicable HRA (House Rent Allowance). A research grant of Rs. 2 Lakhs per year will also be provided to support the fellow's research activities.

Candidates awaiting their Ph.D. degree will receive INR 50,000 plus applicable HRA, but no research grant until they provide their Ph.D. certificate. The total duration of the appointment, including the period before the Ph.D. award, will be one year.

The IISc Post-Doctoral Fellowship is non-transferable, and selected candidates are expected to conduct their research and duties exclusively at IISc.

Application Process

Applicants must first contact a faculty member at IISc who is willing to host them. A consent letter or email from the faculty member is a mandatory part of the application package. The application must be submitted online through the Post-Doctoral application portal, along with several required documents.

Required documents include:

  • Curriculum Vitae with a list of publications.

  • PDF files of 2-5 important publications.

  • A research plan (up to 500 words).

  • Consent letter or email from the faculty member.

  • Ph.D. degree certificate, provisional certificate, or thesis submission certificate.

  • Any other relevant information.

Candidates are responsible for the accuracy of the information provided in their application. Incorrect or false information may lead to cancellation or termination of the application or appointment.

Important Dates and Review Process

Applications can be submitted throughout the year, but they will be reviewed quarterly. The review dates are 31 March, 30 June, 30 September, and 31 December. Applicants can expect a decision on their application within six weeks of these review dates.

The selection process involves screening applications, and a subset of applicants will be invited for an interview, either in person or via video conference. The institute reserves the right to screen and call only suitable candidates for the interview.
