Description

The Livestock Transport Industry Transition – Round 2 provides grants to assist livestock transport businesses in transitioning to other transport-related activities. Administered by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, this open competitive grant opportunity supports businesses that have invested in the transportation of sheep and essential export-related goods for the live sheep export by sea trade.

Overview

Round 2 of the program is part of the Australian Government’s initiative to help livestock transport businesses move into new or expanded transport activities. Grant funding may be used for planning, professional and technical advice, training, and co‑funded investment in asset modification and acquisition.

Funding and Benefits

  • Maximum grant: $40,000 (GST exclusive) over both rounds
  • Funding rate: Up to 50% of eligible costs
  • Co‑contribution: 1:1 cash match required (in‑kind contributions not accepted)
  • Round 1 applicants: Those awarded the maximum $40,000 in Round 1 are not eligible for Round 2. Those awarded less than $40,000 may apply for the remaining balance. Unsuccessful Round 1 applicants may re‑apply for the same or a different project.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet all eligibility criteria in three parts:

  • Connection to the trade: Must demonstrate a connection to the live sheep export by sea trade since 1 July 2020.
  • General requirements: Have an Australian Business Number (ABN), be registered for GST, be an Australian resident for operational and tax purposes, hold an Australian financial institution account, and be a legal entity capable of entering a binding agreement.
  • Entity types: Company, Cooperative, Incorporated Association, Indigenous Corporation, Partnership, Person, or Sole Trader. Trustees may apply if the Trustee is an eligible entity type.

Application Process

Applications must be submitted via the online form on GrantConnect. The submission must include all requested information, address all eligibility and assessment criteria, and include all necessary attachments. Submit to the Community Grants Hub by the deadline.

Deadline and Timeline

  • Close date: 13 July 2026 at 9:00 pm ACT local time
  • Assessment: Within 7 weeks from closing
  • Approval of outcomes: Within 10 weeks from closing
  • Notification to applicants: Within 11 weeks from closing
  • Grant agreements awarded: Within 15 weeks from closing
  • Earliest start of grant activity: November 2026
  • End of grant activity: 31 May 2027
