This call for research proposals aims to foster collaboration between India and the EU to address the critical issue of marine pollution. The focus is on understanding the cumulative impacts of pollutants on marine organisms and ecosystems, aligning with global efforts for ocean sustainability.

Research Focus

The primary focus is to investigate the cumulative impacts of marine pollutants, including persistent organic pollutants and pharmaceuticals, on marine life and ecosystems. Research should contribute to a comprehensive understanding of how these pollutants interact and affect marine health.

The research should align with the Marine Strategy Framework Directive and other relevant EU directives, including the Water Framework Directive. It should also support the zero pollution action plan and the EU biodiversity strategy for 2030.

Studies should assess the adverse effects of pollutants on various species and habitats, contributing to the protection and restoration of marine ecosystems. The research should also support the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.

Key Objectives

The main objective is to assess the adverse effects of pollutants on marine species and habitats. This includes evaluating the cumulative effects of pollutants on overall marine health.

Another key objective is to support the implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive and compliance with Commission Decision (EU) 2017/848. The research should also contribute to the evaluation and possible revision of the Single Use Plastics Directive.

The research should contribute to the planned Global Agreement to End Plastic Pollution. It should also align with the EU Nature Restoration Regulation.
