Description

The University Hospital of Münster (UKM), WWU, is offering a PhD position in Neuro-Immunology for a fixed-term period of 3 years, part-time (65%), with a salary according to TV-L E13. The position is based in the Department of Neurology under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Dr. S. Meuth and Prof. Dr. Gerd Meyer zu Hörste.

Research Focus

The PhD student will work on the mechanisms of brain border immunology, focusing on cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and meningeal leukocytes. The research combines basic experimental models with patient-derived specimens and utilizes cutting-edge technologies such as multi-dimensional flow cytometry and single-cell and single-nucleus transcriptomics. The project aims to advance the understanding of human neuro-immunology.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the PhD student include:

  • Research focus on mechanisms of brain border immunology, including CSF and meninges
  • Application of multi-dimensional flow cytometry, animal models, and single-cell / single-nucleus transcriptomics
  • Integration with the Biology in Context Core Unit

Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Relevant methods and concepts of cellular immunology
  • Experience with multi-dimensional flow cytometry and/or sorters
  • Experience with single cell or spatial transcriptomics methods (preferred)
  • A high degree of motivation, willingness to learn, and team spirit
  • Strong sense of responsibility, organizational skills, high reliability, and flexibility
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English

Note: This is a wet-lab position, so applicants with a purely (bio)informatics background will not be considered.
