The International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS-TIFR) in Bengaluru is offering postdoctoral positions to foster research excellence in basic sciences. ICTS provides a vibrant environment for interdisciplinary interactions and research in theoretical natural sciences and mathematics.
ICTS's in-house research program covers a wide range of topics. These include Complex systems, Nonlinear dynamics and Data assimilation, Statistical physics, Fluid dynamics and turbulence, Condensed matter physics, and Physical biology.
Further research areas include Space-time physics, String theory and Quantum field theory, and Astrophysical relativity. Mathematics, including Differential geometry, Mathematical physics, Dynamical systems, Data assimilation, Monsoon dynamics, and Analysis of partial differential equations and applications, are also key areas.
ICTS is also considering expanding into areas such as cosmology and multiscale and complex systems, including interfaces with theoretical biology, computer science, and computational sciences.
The postdoctoral positions are offered twice a year, in summer and fall, including prize fellowships like Simons and Max-Planck Partner Group. Initial appointments are for two years, with a possible extension for a third year after academic review.
Fellows receive a monthly fellowship based on their experience: Rs. 58,000/- for PhD holders, Rs. 61,000/- for PhD + 1 year, and Rs. 67,000/- for PhD + 2 years. An annual contingency grant is also provided.
Additional benefits include eligibility for ICTS accommodation or Housing Rent Allowance (HRA) and medical benefits as per institute norms. Fellows also have access to high-performance computing facilities, an in-house library, and support for travel to international meetings.
Applicants must have a PhD degree at the time of joining. Candidates should demonstrate a strong background in theoretical sciences or mathematics.
The program is open to candidates of all nationalities. ICTS seeks highly motivated individuals with a passion for research.
Key requirements include:
A strong academic record.
Demonstrated research potential.
Excellent communication skills.
Interested candidates must apply online through the ICTS website or Academic Jobs Online. The application should include a CV, list of publications, a research proposal (not more than two pages), and a covering letter.
Applicants must also arrange for at least two recommendation letters to be submitted. Complete applications, including recommendation letters, must be received by the specified deadlines.
The application deadline is 25 July 2025, and the referee deadline is 31 July 2025. Applications may be considered after the deadline if vacancies remain, with a negotiable starting date of 1st January 2026.
