The PM-YUVA scheme aims to empower young minds and cultivate future leaders in the literary world. Building on the success of previous editions, PM-YUVA 3.0 is set to launch on 11 March 2025. This initiative seeks to identify and mentor young authors, providing them with a platform to express themselves and contribute to India's literary landscape.
This scheme recognizes India's potential as a 'young country' and aims to harness the creativity of its youth. The program will provide a structured mentorship to selected authors. The goal is to promote reading, writing, and book culture, projecting Indian voices globally.
The scheme is implemented by the National Book Trust, India (under BP Division, Ministry of Education, GOI). The NBT will ensure the smooth execution of the scheme through well-defined stages of mentorship.
Mark your calendars! The All India Contest runs from 11 March to 10 April 2025. Following the contest, proposals will be evaluated between 12 April and 12 May 2025. The National Jury meeting is scheduled for 20 May 2025, with results announced on 31 May 2025.
The mentorship program will span from 1 June to 1 November 2025, culminating in a National Camp at the New Delhi World Book Fair 2026 (10 to 18 January 2026). The first set of books is expected to be published by 31 March 2026.
PM-YUVA 3.0 focuses on three themes: Contribution of Indian Diaspora in Nation Building, Indian Knowledge System, and Makers of Modern India (1950-2025). These themes encourage exploration of India's past, present, and future, providing a platform for diverse perspectives.
To be eligible, applicants must be 30 years or younger as of 11 March 2025. Previous participants who qualified for PM-YUVA 1.0 and 2.0 are not eligible for PM-YUVA 3.0. Contestants must not have conflicting obligations during the mentorship period.
Submissions must be made through MyGov by 11:59 PM on 10 April 2025. The genre for PM-YUVA 3.0 is strictly Non-Fiction. Only one entry per person is allowed, and the topic cannot be changed after submission.
The proposal should consist of a synopsis (2000-3000 words), a chapter plan, two-three sample chapters (7000-8000 words), and a bibliography. The maximum word limit is 10,000 words. Ensure your submission adheres to the specified format and guidelines.
Selected authors will participate in a six-month mentorship program. This includes a Writers’ Online Programme featuring masterclasses. Eminent authors and mentors from NBT's panel will provide guidance and support throughout the program.
The mentorship will cover content creation, editorial processes, and literary agent interactions. Authors will also have opportunities to engage in international events like Literary Festivals and Book Fairs. This exposure aims to hone their skills and expand their understanding of the publishing ecosystem.
Each selected author will receive a consolidated scholarship of Rs. 50,000 per month for six months, totaling Rs. 3 Lakh. Additionally, a 10% royalty will be paid upon successful publication of their books. The published books may also be translated into other Indian languages to promote cultural exchange.
A total of 50 authors will be selected based on the themes: 10 for Indian Diaspora, 20 for Indian Knowledge System, and 20 for Makers of Modern India. A committee constituted by NBT will oversee the selection process. The selection will be based on the quality and relevance of the submitted proposals.
The scheme aims to create a pool of authors who can represent India on international platforms. It also seeks to promote reading and authorship as viable career paths. The program intends to positively impact the mental health of young minds, especially in the wake of recent challenges.
By fostering a new generation of authors, PM-YUVA 3.0 will contribute to the growth of the Indian publishing industry. This initiative aligns with the vision of creating a "Global Citizen" and promoting "Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat," ultimately establishing India as a "Vishwa Guru."
