This opportunity is designed for outstanding newly minted or imminent PhD graduates who are eager to establish their own independent research programs in a fully international research environment.

Program Overview

The Westlake Fellows Program invites exceptional PhD graduates from around the globe to apply for a chance to develop their research careers at Westlake University. The program emphasizes creativity and excellence, providing a supportive environment for interdisciplinary collaboration. Appointment Terms and Support

Fellows are appointed for a fixed term of three years, with the possibility of renewal for an additional three years, contingent upon a successful review. The start date is flexible and can be negotiated with the Office of the Westlake Fellow Program. During their tenure, fellows will receive an internationally competitive salary and substantial start-up funding to establish independent laboratories and build research teams. Notably, there are no mandatory teaching duties, allowing fellows to focus entirely on innovative research.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Westlake Fellows Program, applicants must either be about to receive a PhD or have obtained one within the past two years by the application deadline. Candidates should not have held a tenure-track or tenured faculty position. The program seeks individuals who demonstrate exceptional promise, independence, and scientific maturity, with a strong motivation to explore the frontiers of science and engineering.

• School of Science: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Astronomy and Astrophysics, Interdisciplinary Science.
• School of Engineering: Electronic and Information Engineering, Materials Science, Artificial Intelligence, Biological Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering.
• School of Life Sciences: Structural Biology, Cell Biology, Stem Cell Research, Neural and Behavioral Biology, Bioinformatics, Aging and Degenerative Diseases, Cancer Biology.
• School of Medicine: Microbiology, Immunology, Physiology, Cancer Biology, Medical Genetics, Clinical Medicine, Pharmacology, Public Health.

Application Process

There are two pathways for applying to the Westlake Fellows Program: nominations and direct applications. Candidates can be nominated by a senior investigator who can provide a detailed analysis of their accomplishments. Nominations must include a nomination form and the nominee's CV. Upon acceptance, nominees will submit an application form, letter of intent, research plan, and three reference letters.

• Direct Applications: Exceptional young scientists may also apply directly, submitting similar materials as those required for nominations.
