Overview

The Stipendier programme, offered by the Stiftelsen San Michele, provides a residency scholarship at Villa San Michele in Anacapri, Italy. The programme offers creative and scholarly professionals a subsidised residential stay of approximately three weeks in a peaceful environment to pursue individual projects. The scholarship period runs from mid-March to early December each year.

Funding and Benefits

The scholarship covers accommodation costs at Villa San Michele. The scholarship consists solely of subsidised accommodation; the accommodation fee is charged to the scholarship holder.

Eligibility

Applications are open to fellows of all ages, including younger applicants. Eligible candidates fall into five categories:

  • Authors – including journalists and writers
  • Researchers – both at and outside universities
  • Artists – including craftspeople and photographers
  • Composers – including musicians and singers
  • Others – active in film, theatre, or dance

All applications must be submitted in Swedish.

Research Areas

The programme is open to professionals working in the humanities and social sciences, as well as creative and artistic fields.

Career Stages

Applicants at the following career stages may apply:

  • First Stage Researcher (R1) – up to the point of PhD
  • Recognised Researcher (R2) – PhD holders or equivalent who are not yet fully independent
  • Established Researcher (R3) – researchers who have developed a level of independence
  • Leading Researcher (R4) – researchers leading their research area or field
