Description

The Network of Digital Mentors Program provides funding to establish and train a network of digital mentors in remote First Nations communities, supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to enhance access to connectivity, develop digital skills and literacy, and safely participate in the digital economy.

Overview

Announced in the 2024–25 Budget, the Network of Digital Mentors Program is administered by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts. The program aims to improve First Nations digital inclusion by delivering culturally safe advice and support regarding the use of telecommunications services, online safety, accessing essential services, and troubleshooting connectivity issues. Delivery is designed to be flexible and responsive to changes in consumer experiences and expectations over time.

The program forms part of the Australian Government’s commitment to Closing the Gap Target 17: By 2026, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have equal levels of digital inclusion.
