The Wiedemann Fellowships for Enlightenment Studies support research stays at the Interdisciplinary Centre for European Enlightenment Studies (IZEA) in Halle, Germany. Funded by the Dr. phil. Fritz Wiedemann Foundation, these fellowships enable scholars from Germany and abroad to conduct research on the Enlightenment using the centre’s extensive historical library and engaging with its research groups. Fellows are expected to present their research results in a public lecture at the end of their stay.
The IZEA, housed within the Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, is a leading centre for the study of the Enlightenment in Germany. Each year, the centre offers two Wiedemann research fellowships: one for PhD students and one for more experienced scholars. Shorter stays with an adapted stipend rate are possible, and limited funding is available for travel costs.
