The WITS-TUB-UNILAG Urban Lab Master Scholarships 2025 is a scholarship program offered by the WITS-TUB-UNILAG Programme for studies at the School of Architecture and Planning at the University of the Witwatersrand.

The program focuses on four innovation areas that address SDG implementation in urban areas: politics and policy of the urban, understanding complex urban systems, managing change processes, and co-producing knowledge between theory and practice.

Scope of Work

The scholarship program covers the duration of one academic year and includes full tuition fees, a monthly stipend for living expenses, travel from the home country/place of origin, and student medical aid for 12 months.

The program is interdisciplinary, with a special emphasis on intertransdisciplinary portfolios that cut across various fields, including development planning, housing, sustainable urban development, urban management, and urban design.

Eligibility

The program is open to citizens of South Africa and permanent residents. Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree equivalent to an honors degree (NQF level 8) in the South African Qualification System (SAQA). There is no age limit, but applicants must have graduated from their previous studies no more than six years prior to the application deadline. Proficiency in English is required, and proficiency in other languages relevant to the proposed fieldwork location is recommended.

Budget and Duration

The scholarship covers full tuition fees, a monthly stipend for living expenses, travel from the home country/place of origin, and student medical aid for 12 months. The program is a full-time, 11-month program, and selected students are not allowed to participate in any form of employment during this period.
