Introduction

The British Academy/Leverhulme Small Research Grants 2025 is a funding opportunity for researchers in the humanities and social sciences. The grants are offered by the British Academy and are designed to support primary research. The program is highly competitive, with awards made to academics working at around 100 institutions across the UK.

Scope of Work

The grants are intended to cover the costs associated with a defined research project. This includes expenses such as travel, accommodation, research materials, and conference attendance. The grants are not intended to support interchange between UK and overseas scholars without a planned program of activity to meet a clearly specified research objective.

Eligibility

The grants are open to postdoctoral scholars (or equivalent) who are ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom. Applications require the approval of the applicant's employing institution. Independent scholars can also apply. Co-applicants can be from anywhere in the world, but the principal applicant must be ordinarily resident in the UK.

Budget and Duration

The grants are worth up to £10,000 and are tenable for up to 24 months. The minimum grant amount is £500. The grants can be used to support a variety of activities, including initial project planning and development, direct research costs, and workshops or conferences.

Additional Information

The grants are awarded on a competitive basis, with no preference given to any particular mode of inquiry. Applications for collaborative or individual projects are equally welcome. Applications from international groups of scholars are welcome, provided there is a UK-based scholar as lead applicant.

Key Dates

The application deadline is November 6, 2024.
