The Healthcare Technology Translation Partnership Scheme (HTTPS) is a funding opportunity offered by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to support the progression of basic and fundamental research towards application and impact within healthcare. The scheme aims to accelerate research towards products and practices by fostering partnerships with key stakeholders in the healthcare sector, including clinical and healthcare professionals and industrial partners. The HTTPS is a continuation of the Healthcare Impact Partnerships Scheme (HIPS), which was introduced in 2013 to support preclinical and precompetitive research projects.
This funding opportunity focuses on three key challenges: improving population health and preventing ill health, transforming prediction and early diagnosis, and discovering and accelerating the development of new interventions. The scheme seeks applications that advance engineering and physical sciences research towards application and impact in areas of unmet healthcare need. Projects should demonstrate a clear route to translation and engage with a diverse range of partners to ensure co-creation and co-delivery of research.
EPSRC standard eligibility rules apply. UK-based organizations are eligible to apply. International applicants are eligible if they are based in a Norwegian institution and meet the requirements of the UKRI and Research Council of Norway Money Follows Cooperation agreement. Resubmissions of previously submitted projects are not accepted. UKRI has introduced new role types for funding opportunities, and applicants should refer to the Eligibility as an individual page for details.
The full economic cost (FEC) of projects can be up to £1.88 million, with EPSRC funding 80% of the FEC, up to a maximum of £1.5 million. The duration of the award is up to 48 months. Funding is available for equipment (up to £400,000 per item), proof of concept studies, and the progression of basic and fundamental research towards application and impact.
The HTTPS is a continuation of the Healthcare Impact Partnerships Scheme (HIPS), which was introduced in 2013. An independent report evaluated the value and impact of HIPS, leading to the creation of the HTTPS. The scheme emphasizes the importance of impact, defined as the long-term intended or unintended effect of research and innovation on society, economy, and the environment.

Applications are submitted through the new UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Funding Service. A mandatory expression of interest (EOI) is required by 14 November at 4:00 pm UK time. The project lead is responsible for completing the application process, but all team members and project partners are expected to contribute. The application process involves answering questions directly in text boxes, uploading documents, and submitting the completed application to the research office for checking.
The assessment process is two-stage: outline stage and full application stage. At the outline stage, applications are assessed by a panel of experts against specified criteria. Successful applicants are invited to submit full proposals. At the full application stage, applications are reviewed independently by experts and then assessed by a panel, who make a funding recommendation. EPSRC makes the final funding decision.
