The MFWA DPI Journalism Fellowship 2024 is a three-month program designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of journalists in West Africa on Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and Digital Public Goods (DPG) issues. The fellowship is funded by Co-Develop and hosted by the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA). The program aims to increase public awareness, stimulate debates, and encourage participation in DPI/DPGs policy development and implementation across West Africa.

Scope of Work

The fellowship will involve a three-month program from November 2024 to January 2025, including training workshops, mentorship, and story production. Fellows will produce at least five significant stories on DPI/DPGs and publish them in their respective news media organizations. The program also includes virtual and in-person capacity-building sessions, quarterly virtual follow-up refreshers, and network activities.

Eligibility

The fellowship is open to experienced journalists from Benin, Ghana, Nigeria, and Togo. Applicants must possess strong social and communication skills, a proven record of diligent journalistic reporting, and basic knowledge or experience in ICTs and digitalization issues. They should also be able to work cooperatively in diverse groups and respect the opinions of others.

Budget and Duration

The fellowship offers a monthly stipend of $250 per fellow for the first three months. Fellows will also receive reporting grants of up to US$300 per story. Partner newsrooms will be supported with $1000 under a DPI/DPGs Newsroom Partnership Programme. Travel grants are available for best DPI/DPG reporters to participate in international trainings or convenings.

Additional Information

The fellowship includes a certificate of participation upon completion. Applications should include a 350-word statement of interest, a CV with two referees, a statement of support from the applicant’s media organization, and a copy of a national ID.
