The University of Siena in Italy is offering a PhD position in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences as part of the MENTOR research initiative.

This initiative aims to develop next-generation indoor photovoltaics (IPVs) that efficiently re-use energy from artificial illumination to power electronics, contributing to a sustainable future.

The research will focus on life cycle assessment of IPVs, including data inventories, modeling, impact assessment, and critical raw materials analysis.

Scope of Work

The PhD candidate will be involved in a comprehensive research project focused on the life cycle assessment of indoor photovoltaics (IPVs).

The research will involve: * Developing life cycle data inventories for materials, architectures, and configurations of IPVs. * Defining a prospective LCA modeling approach. * Conducting life cycle impact assessment of IPV devices. * Analyzing critical raw materials used in IPVs.

Eligibility

The PhD position is open to candidates of any nationality.

Applicants must be eligible to enroll in the Doctoral Program at the University of Siena and must not have been awarded a doctoral degree.

They must also not have resided or carried out their main activity in Italy for more than 12 months in the 3 years prior to recruitment.

A Master of Science (MSc) diploma is required at the start of the employment. Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory.

Budget and Duration

The PhD position offers a full-time contract for 36 months.

The approximate gross salary is €140,817.60 for 3 years without family allowance and €158,637.60 with family allowance.

Additional Information

The PhD candidate will have the opportunity to participate in mobility programs at CEA-IRIG in France and Eco Recycling in Italy.

The starting date is negotiable, with November 1st, 2024, as the target date.
