The Pulitzer Center Teacher Fellowship 2024: Making Connections to Global Health Stories is a paid, virtual fellowship program designed for educators to explore global health stories and engage students in critical analysis of these issues. The program aims to deepen students' understanding of global health topics, inspire them to take action, and empower them to address health issues in their communities. The fellowship is open to all classroom teachers (grades four–12) working in public, charter, independent, and alternative schools in the United States and U.S. territories.
The fellowship program will involve a cohort of up to 14 educators participating in six virtual workshops over a period of time. The workshops will focus on exploring global health stories, analyzing how news stories engage students in critical analysis, guiding students in making local connections, and exploring paths for students to apply their learning to address health issues in their own communities. Educators will design a rigorous learning experience that centers at least one news story and culminates in an activity exemplifying empowered action.
The fellowship is open to all classroom teachers (grades four–12) working in public, charter, independent, and alternative schools in the United States and U.S. territories. Educators working with adults and youth in jails, prisons, or youth detention facilities are also encouraged to apply. Applicants must be currently teaching virtually or in person, and plan to continue teaching in their current school at least through the end of the 2024–2025 school year. Applicants must have stable internet access and a computer with a webcam and microphone.
The fellowship provides a $600 stipend (made in two payments of $300 disbursed in November 2024 and January 2025) to each participant. The program will be conducted over a period of six workshops, with the exact dates and times to be determined.
Upon successful completion of the program, Fellows will receive a Pulitzer Center Teacher Fellow digital badge, a certificate for 30 professional learning units (PLUs), and the opportunity to share their learning experience by publishing a narrative blog post or a lesson plan.
The application deadline for the Pulitzer Center Teacher Fellowship 2024 is Sunday, September 8, 2024 at 11:59 pm EDT.
The selection process for the fellowship will be based on the applicant's qualifications, experience, and commitment to the program's goals. The Pulitzer Center will notify selected applicants by email.
