The CSIR-Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) is hosting a skill development program on "Genetic & Microbial Monitoring of Animals" (GMMA-II). This comprehensive training is scheduled from September 8th to 16th, 2025. The program aims to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills necessary for effective monitoring and maintenance of laboratory animals.
GMMA-II is designed for faculty members, researchers, and individuals from diverse fields including Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Pharmaceutical Science. The course focuses on hands-on experimentation and insightful lectures. Participants will gain expertise in tissue collection, DNA isolation, genotyping, and microbial contamination detection and prevention.
A key objective is to train individuals in maintaining genetically homozygous and germ-free animals, which is crucial for reliable experimental outcomes. The program offers a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application, ensuring participants can immediately apply their learnings.
The training curriculum encompasses a wide range of topics, including quality control methods for maintaining genetic integrity and microbial purity. Participants will learn about immuno-genetic, biochemical, and PCR-based testing methods. Disease screening techniques for lab animals, along with proper sample collection and processing, will also be covered extensively.
Hands-on sessions are a core component of the program. Participants will perform genomic DNA isolation from tail samples and genotyping using standard PCR with gene-specific and SSLP markers. They will also learn to assess genotype and genetic contamination using biochemical markers such as Hbâ, ALP, Albumin, and SGPT.
Further practical exercises include tissue collection, DNA & RNA isolation, and cDNA synthesis for DNA & RNA viruses. Participants will also identify infective agents using Real-time PCR (qPCR) and assess microbial contamination through agar plate preparation, staining procedures, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing (ABST).
In addition to hands-on training, the program includes demonstrations covering essential techniques. These include primer sequence selection, primer design, and synthesis. Participants will also learn basic PCR programming and the applications of real-time PCR (qPCR) and reverse transcriptase PCR (RT-PCR).
Demonstrations will also cover the preparation of buffers and master mixes for DNA and RNA isolations and PCR. Participants will observe skin and hair scraping techniques for identifying ecto-parasites. Basic histo-pathological techniques involved in health monitoring programs will also be demonstrated.
The training boasts expert instructors, exposure to laboratory safety regulations, and one-on-one interaction with trainers. Evaluation assignments and troubleshooting sessions are integrated to enhance learning. A certificate of participation will be awarded upon completion.
The program is limited to 10-15 participants to ensure personalized attention and effective hands-on training. The minimum qualification required is a Bachelor's or Master's degree in any branch of Life Science or allied areas. Selection is based on the application form and a statement of purpose.
The course fee is Rs. 18,000/-, which includes accommodation and GST. This fee covers all training materials, access to laboratory facilities, and accommodation for the duration of the program. Participants are responsible for their travel arrangements to and from CCMB, Hyderabad.
Interested candidates can apply through the provided link: http://recruitment.ccmb.res.in/training_programs/sdp/. The application process involves filling out the online form and submitting a compelling statement of purpose outlining your interest and relevant experience.
