The Institute of Oceanology Polish Academy of Sciences (IO PAN) is offering an adjunct position in the Department of Paleoceanography, Environmental DNA Laboratory.
This opportunity is open to researchers with a strong background in marine biology, molecular ecology, or microbiology, and expertise in high-throughput sequencing data analysis.
The position is for a duration of 12 months, starting in November 2024.
The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing recent and paleo-metabarcoding data using standard tools for high-throughput sequencing data analysis. They will also adapt algorithms and statistical methods for processing metabarcoding data of specific taxonomic groups, such as foraminifera.
Other responsibilities include curating barcoding and metabarcoding databases, teaching and assisting with bioinformatic tools, maintaining and updating bioinformatics tools, writing scientific publications, and presenting research findings at international conferences.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in oceanography with a specialization in marine biology, molecular ecology, or microbiology.
They should have extensive experience in high-throughput sequencing data generation and analysis, documented by research articles. Strong knowledge of statistical tools applied to microbial ecology and paleoceanography, particularly in biomonitoring and paleogenomics, is essential.
Proficiency in bioinformatics and biostatistics using R, Python, or MATLAB is required.
Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal) are also necessary.
Experience in field research and research cruises is considered an advantage.
The position offers a gross salary of 6841.00 PLN per month for 12 months.
The duration of the position is 12 months, starting in November 2024.
