Introduction

The Alzheimer's Association Research Fellowship (AARF) grant program is designed to support exceptional researchers who are engaged in their post-graduate work (i.e., postdoctoral fellows) and before they have their first independent faculty positions (i.e., Assistant Professor). The program supports research in diverse areas, including basic, translational, clinical, functional, and social-behavioural research. The grant is open to U.S. and international researchers.

Scope of Work

The AARF grant program supports exceptional researchers engaged in post-graduate work or those who have not yet secured their first independent faculty positions. The program encourages research in various areas, including basic, translational, clinical, functional, and social-behavioural research. The grant aims to advance research on Alzheimer's and related dementias.

Eligibility

Applications are accepted from postdoctoral fellows (or an equivalent level position) with full-time positions at their respective academic institutions and less than 10 years of research experience after receipt of their doctorate (PhD) or terminal degree. Individuals who have a position of an Assistant Professorship or above are not eligible.

Budget and Duration

Each Fellowship award is limited to $200,000. The award includes $180,000 for research costs over a maximum of three years (minimum two years), with a yearly limit of $70,000. An additional $12,500 is available for travel expenses over three years, with a yearly limit of $7,000. The remaining funds are two $10,000 research stipends for the applicant and primary mentor, awarded upon completion of the award.

Additional Information

The Principal Investigator must commit to a 50% research effort each funding year. The Fellowship is expected to transfer with the Fellow to their future institution. The Association must approve any potential change in the Mentor role.
