The Foreign Travel Grant (FTG) provides financial support for Indian citizens wishing to study, attend workshops, seminars, or conferences abroad related to History. Below are the key details and eligibility criteria for the grant:
Collection of Source Material:
For studying at archives, museums, libraries, or private collections abroad.
Scholars must certify that the required materials are not available in India.
You must provide a letter from the libraries/archives indicating that you have the required documents.
Participation in Workshops, Seminars, or Conferences:
To present a paper related to history.
Scholars must submit the full paper they propose to present.
Training in a Specialized Branch of History:
To receive specialized training abroad.
Applications must be submitted at least three months before the proposed departure date.
Proof of proficiency in the relevant language, especially for non-English sources.
Scholars must identify the source material and records they intend to study.
A detailed report must be submitted to the ICHR on return, and research results may need to be deposited with the ICHR.
For Conferences/Seminars/Workshops: Only scholars with a Doctorate or above.
For Collection of Source Material:
Scholars pursuing M.Phil or registered for a Ph.D. degree or above.
M.Phil/Ph.D. scholars must provide evidence of progress and supervisor recommendations.
The Research Projects Committee, or the Foreign Travel Grant Committee, reviews applications.
The ICHR may consult experts to assess the proposal.
Decisions are reported to the Research Projects Committee, which can modify or alter them if no action has been taken.
Grants are not awarded post facto (after completing the trip).
If unavailable, air travel should be on excursion or full economy tickets from specified travel agencies.
The maintenance allowance is provided in rupees, equivalent to US dollars.
Medical insurance is mandatory.
A scholar can receive the FTG no more than once every three years.
Detailed reports of research or study must be submitted on return.
Research results should be deposited with the ICHR in the form of theses, books, or monographs, with due acknowledgment to ICHR.
