The Indian National Science Academy (INSA) offers research grants for projects in the History of Science and Technology, focusing on India's scientific heritage. Eligibility for INSA Research Grant

  • Open to serving or retired historians/scientists interested in research on the history of Indian science and technology

  • Retired PIs may receive honorarium and contingency funds

  • Serving PIs may receive funding for a Research Assistant/Fellow/Associate and contingency

  • Full-time projects may be approved for independent young researchers as Research Associates

Qualifications for INSA Grant

  • PIs should preferably have a Master's degree (at least 2nd class) or PhD

  • Research Associates must have a PhD and aptitude for full-time research

  • Research Fellows should have cleared CSIR/UGC NET

  • Research Assistants must have a postgraduate degree

Funding and Facilities

  • In-service PIs typically receive contingency funds only

  • Remuneration for retired scientists, Research Associates and Fellows as per INSA norms

  • The contingency amount is determined based on project merit

  • Funds are released to the host institution in two installments per year

  • Contingency covers books, stationery, postage, and project-related travel

How to apply for INSA research Grant Application Process

  • Submit 3 copies of a completed application with annexures

  • Applications due by November 30, 2024

  • Final selection made by Research Council/National Commission

  • Projects operated through recognized institutions/universities

  • INSA may terminate projects not showing satisfactory progress
