The Ramanujan Fellowship is an esteemed program designed to attract brilliant Indian scientists and engineers from abroad to return to India and take up scientific research positions. It is targeted at those under 40 who have an outstanding track record in their fields and meet specific criteria.
Eligibility Criteria
Age: Below 40 years.
Qualification: Ph.D. in Science/Engineering, Masters in Engineering/Technology, MD in Medicine, or equivalent, with adequate professional experience.
Track Record: Proven outstanding research publications and recognitions.
Current Position: Must not hold any permanent, tenure-track, or contractual position in any Indian institution/university at the time of nomination.
Current Location: Must be working abroad at the time of nomination.
Duration: Five years, non-extendable.
Nature of Support
Fellowship Amount: Rs. 1,35,000/- per month (consolidated including HRA).
Research Grant: Rs. 7.00 lakh per annum for consumables, travel, research personnel, contingencies, etc.
Overhead Charges: Rs. 60,000/- per annum.
Additional Grants: Eligible for regular research grants through various S&T agencies of the Government of India.
Methodology for Nomination & Selection
Host Institution: Candidates must choose and approach an S&T institution in India that agrees to provide administrative and R&D infrastructural support. The institution must be different from where the candidate obtained their doctorate degree.
Nomination: Ph.D. guides or institutions where the candidate obtained their Ph.D. cannot nominate them.
Application: Candidates must register on the SERB online portal and fill out the necessary details, including uploading a research proposal.
Selection: Done periodically by a Search-cum-Selection Committee appointed for this purpose.
Nomination Process: Can be submitted throughout the year.

Registration: Nominee needs to register at [SERB online portal](https://www.serbonline.in).
Profile Completion: Fill in mandatory profile details including photo, institution, address, etc.
Form Submission: Choose the Ramanujan Fellowship scheme and complete the nomination form.
Proposal Upload: Upload a proposed research area and a brief outline in a single PDF (max 5 pages).
Submission to Nominator: Send the form to the Nominator for review.
Nominator's Role: The Nominator reviews and submits the form to SERB.
